Where is your child heading after high school?
How often did you hear as a kid, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” In high school, few people know. And today, it’s not about “what you want to be,” and more about “what do you want to do?”
And even then, most students don’t have a clue beyond thinking, “I want to make a lot of money!!!”
At AFPD, we recognized the “professional careers” really begin with “education careers.” What you do, and don’t do in school, can often dictate what you do later in your career. Today, we hammer home with our kids that college is the logical next step. But is it? Does it make the most sense? Is your child even mature enough to understand how his or her actions today impact things five, 10, or 20 years down the road with student loans, career path choices, and other things? Probably not! That’s why AFPD developed the Student Career Path Planning Program (SCPP).
Through the Student Career Path Planning Program, you and your child will learn more about each other, so you can better devise a plan on how to get where you want to go. It may involve college, vocational school, the military, or something else altogether. Still, until you begin to understand some fundamental truths about yourself, you may find yourself somewhere you don’t want to be.
Confused? Don’t be. We here to help you explore who you are, to equip you with the knowledge and the tools you need to move forward, and to engage you to help take the right steps at the right time.
